Welcome to the official website for AirSleeve! Here, we will document our progress over the next few months and share our journey of seeing the AirSleeve product come to life.

Meet Our Team
Our team is comprised of several students from the department of Mechatronics and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Waterloo, all of whom bring a variety of skills and experience to the table. With a shared passion for sports, fitness and engineering, we wanted to provide a solution that would give all users the equal opportunity to push themselves to new limits and optimize their vertical jumping ability. As a collective, our experiences in the realm of mechanical and software engineering have allowed us to pursue just that, with numerous co-op placements at prestigious companies like Amazon, Athos, and ATS Automation under our belt. You can learn more about our team by visiting the About Us tab.
Project Background
Vertical jump training is completed by numerous athletes specific to their sport and occurs primarily in volleyball and basketball players. It is also commonly completed within general fitness programs. Some training methods include in-person training from coaches, individual training programs, and personal training equipment. However, each of these has drawbacks. Coaches and trainers are expensive and may give varying feedback depending on the coach. Training programs and personal training equipment generally don’t offer much in the way of personalized feedback and indications for areas of personal improvement. Efficiently and measurably increasing natural vertical jumping ability is extremely valuable and that is what this project will be aiming to achieve.
Learn about our Motivations, Goals & Objectives!
As athletes, we understand that there are always shortcomings to everyone’s natural ability. However, here at AirSleeve, we want to overlook such shortcomings and provide a means to reach your peak abilities.
The goal for this project is to create a product that can measure quantifiable muscle activation and motion data from a user’s jumping activity. The tracked data is to be processed into personalized feedback, subsequently improving the user’s jumping form, in addition to guiding them to improve overall jump performance.
We have several objectives for this project, the first of which is to ensure that users have a comfortable experience with the product and that it does not obstruct their movement. The product application needs to provide users with tailored vertical optimizing exercises from a scientifically proven library of programs, as well as feedback to encourage users to improve technique and reduce risk of injury. Lastly, the product should also help users track their vertical jumping progression.
What’s next?
The 2022 calendar year will begin with the development of a testing plan, using the assistance of Ph.D Candidate in Control, Robotics, and Biomechatronics Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo, Ali Nasr. Ali’s help will enable our team to accurately test and obtain data from real time muscle responses when jumping.
Furthermore, the prototype assembly will begin in February, with refinement continuing through over the next few weeks, and a final build being completed at the end of February. The software and interfacing work will begin with the development of an informative UI interface, followed by the data analysis in early March. We will then conduct testing and feedback validation in early March, before concluding the term with a final presentation.
Stay tuned for more details to come!
